2009 - 2010 Gifted Preschool Calendar

September 1 - June 26		School Year
Sept 1	Tues	Parent and Child Visiting Day
Sept 2 or 3	Wed - Thurs	Mothers’ Teas Olivenhain Town Hall 8:30-9:30am.  The school Year Begins. Children start school, mother's go to the Olivenhain Town Hall for our Mother's Tea. They are able to meet other parents, arrange for play dates, lunch dates or carpooling arrangements.
Sept 7	Mon	Labor Day* (Federal Holiday)
Sept 22-24	Tues - Thurs	Parent Nights (Invitations will be sent).  Parents spend an evening at the Gifted Preschool, meeting other parents, seeing their child's classroom and recent work they have done, and talking with the teacher.
Sept 30	Wed	Parent's Business Cards Due for Directory. The Gifted Preschool produces a directory of business cards from our current parents. This allows parents who need a service to use the Gifted Preschool Community as a first reference.
Oct 1	Thurs	Specialty Programs Begin
Oct 12	Mon	Columbus Day Observed* (Federal Holiday).  The previous week children studied and learned about Christopher Columbus and the contributions he made to world science.
Oct 24	Fri	Bring a Teddy Bear to School Day. Children learn about the importance Teddy Roosevelt played in helping to implement our National Parks system. Children can bring their teddy bears to school.
Oct 30	Fri	Halloween Party. Hosted by our Parent Group. They bring in a healthy snack and children wear their pajamas instead of costumes for a fun day.
Nov 2-4	Mon - Wed	Vision and Hearing Screening
Nov 2-6	Mon - Fri	Canned food drive. We teach children about giving to those who are less fortunate.
Nov 11	Wed	Veterans’ Day Observed* (Federal Holiday)
Nov 25-27	Wed - Fri	Thanksgiving Break*
Dec 1	Tues	Goal Sheets/Redbooks sent home. Teachers send home the continuing evaluation of children's progress.
Dec 7	Mon	Parents Return Goal Sheets to their child's teacher.
Dec 24-Jan 1		Winter Break*
Jan 6	Wed	Children wear Crazy socks to school. A fun way to express their creativity.
Jan 18	Mon	Martin L. King, Jr. Day Observed.*
Jan 19	Tues	Preschool Orientation. Two's parents come to observe classes their children will attend in the upcoming year.
Jan 20-21	Wed - Thurs	Pre-K Orientation. Preschool parents com to observe classes their children will attend in the upcoming year.
Jan 29	Fri	Fall 2011 Priority Registration Due
Feb 8	Mon	Summer Enrollment Begins.
Feb 12	Fri	Valentine's Day Party. Hosted by our parents, they bring in a fun, nutritional snack for the children to enjoy.
Feb 15-19	Mon - Fri	President's Day/Family Week observed.*
Mar 1	Mon	Goal Sheets/Redbooks sent home. Teachers send home the continuing evaluation of children's progress.
Mar 2-3	Tues - Wed	Read Across America. Children celebrate Dr. Seuss's Birthday and read Dr. Seuss Books, learn about his influence on San Diego.
Mar 1-5	Mon-Fri	Book Drive. Our Parent Group collect gently used children's books for the Reach Out and Read Program.
Mar 8	Mon	Return Goal Sheets/Redbooks.
Mar 17	Wed	St. Patrick's Day Party. Hosted by our parents, they bring in a fun, nutritional snack for the children to enjoy.
April 5-9	Mon-Fri	Spring Break.*
Apr 20	Wed	Wear a hat to school Day. Children make a hat at home with their parents, then wear them to school and talk about how the hats were made.
May 5	Wed	Cinco de Mayo Event. Children learn about the culture of our neighbor to the south.
May 31	Mon	Memorial Day Observed.*
June 16	Wed	2's and Preschool Redbooks go home, return by June 23, these books are added to each year.
June 26	Sat	Specialty Program Exhibition and Piano Recital. Families come to enjoy the children's performances.
June 28	Mon	Pre-K Redbooks are sent home with the children to have a memento of their years at the Gifted Preschool.
June 28-29	Mon-Tues	Ice Cream Social and Buddy Days. Parents plan a June party of all the children.
June 29	Tues	Prekindergarten Evening Performance
July 1-Aug 31		Educational Summer Fun program. Set up in sessions so parents can decide the best schedule for their child.
