Enrichment and Specialty Classes

The Gifted Preschool’s Enrichment Program began twenty-six years ago, and we are so proud of how it has grown. These extraordinary specialty classes are held in the afternoon, and this year we are introducing brand new offerings along with all our traditional favorites.

The Gifted Preschool is happy to present this enticing line-up of extracurricular activities, and these exceptional classes are intended to enhance The Gifted Preschool's already outstanding curriculum and preschool program.

As we strive to bring you the best program possible, you'll find that each one of our enrichment teachers is extremely qualified in their field. Each has extensive education and training in their chosen profession, and they work especially hard to make sure their wonderful programs provide your bright child with that extra stimulation they crave.

ART 

(3 year olds and up)

Help your child develop their artistic side in forty-five -minute art classes that offer both structured and free exploration of basic art concepts. Ms. Tracey’s art explorations use a variety of media including: watercolors, ceramics, photography, pastels, and painting. Ms. Tracey will instruct and assist your budding artist as they make observations about the masters, such as Van Gogh, Monet, O’Keefe, and Pollack; and, as they emulate their famous works of art, students will learn important artistic concepts. In June, our art students will show off their artwork in our annual art exhibit.

DRAMA CLASS

(3 year olds and up)

Kids Act is more than just dress-up fun; these engaging forty-five minute drama classes help your child develop self-confidence and creativity. Each child is encouraged to step forward and shine in an atmosphere of respect and trust.

Kids Act is taught by Aleta Barthell, a member of SAG and AFTRA and a professional actor for 13+ years.
 

 

BALLET

(3 year olds and up)

Our Pre-Ballet dance class is a planned developmental movement program that teaches the basics of ballet. Each forty-five minute class stresses the development of physical, imagination, and socialization skills while children build their self confidence and self-esteem. This fulfilling class is designed to introduce youngsters to the art of ballet in a non-threatening, loving environment.

 

PRE-BALLET

(2 year olds only)

 

This dance and movement program, especially designed for two year olds, puts the emphasis on movement exploration and allows for a variety of physical activities. In this engaging class, children develop their gross motor skills, movement, creativity, physical development, and body awareness. This is a half hour class, and all of our two year olds are eligible to attend this class regardless of their Gifted Preschool schedule.

COMPUTER CLASS

(2 year olds and up)

In this half hour class, students are taught computer basics and learn important concepts including: mouse control, clicking, double clicking, dragging, keyboarding, symbol and icon recognition, and computer care. In addition, Gigglebytes’ educational software allows students to enhance their math, language, and critical thinking skills. Studies have shown that early computer experience helps children form connections that will be useful for a lifetime.

 

Each Gigglebytes class is specifically geared for the age group that will be attending. Gigglebytes is one of the few classes we offer for our two year old students.

MAD SCIENCE

(3 year olds and up)

 

This very popular forty-five minute science class is designed to spark the curiosity of young children and build their enthusiasm for learning. This age-appropriate class is packed with fascinating activities, and students create and take home a different science project each week.

PLAYBALL

(3 year olds and up)

 

During Playball children are introduced to the wonderful world of sports. Basic skills, sport techniques, mini matches, and the rules of soccer, baseball, basketball, volleyball, tennis, and hockey are coached.

 

Playball is an age-specific forty-five minute movement class, where activities focus mainly on improving motor development, fine motor skills, gross motor coordination, eye and foot/hand coordination, body balance, timing, directionality, special orientation, and motor planning.

 

GYMNASTICS

(2 year olds and up)

 

The TumbleGym Bus offers an amazing curriculum specifically designed for our two to five year olds. Each week, these forty-minute gymnastics classes will incorporate stretching, bar, beam, vault, and floor exercises to create a fun and exciting learning experience for your child. This program strives to promote strength, flexibility, coordination, and, most importantly, self-confidence.

 

PRE-GYMNASTICS

(2 year olds only)

 

Two is a delightful age filled with curiosity, wonderment, growth and new experiences. “Twos Can Do” is an exciting program which matches its age group in every respect and is conducive to learning, growing, and prospering. This wonderful half hour movement and coordination program has been specifically designed for the two year old and takes advantage of the exciting changes and accelerated development at this age.

YOGA

(2 year olds and up)

 

Yoga is a great way for your child to get in touch with the arts of fitness and relaxation. This exceptional program is designed for the very young beginner and teaches skills that will last a lifetime. Flexibility and coordination are the focus of these forty-five minute classes as children learn the benefits of this very popular way to relax and exercise.

SPANISH

(3 year olds and up)

 

Introduce your child to the Spanish language with Ms. Lili and her puppet helper Bingo. Your child will enjoy learning Spanish vocabulary and phrases in classes that teach our state's "second language" in a fun and easy way. Learning activities include games, stories, pictures, and songs.

MUSIC APPRECIATION CLASS

(3 year olds and up)

 

In each forty-five-minute class of Ms. Lisa’s well-rounded early exposure to music appreciation we...

 

• Sing songs with movement
• Listen to music of famous composers
• Play percussion instruments
• Acquire beginning keyboard skills
• Learn basic music notation

SEMI-PRIVATE PIANO LESSONS

(4 year olds and up)

In these sixty minute classes, four students rotate individually from station to station every fifteen minutes.

Fun ear training and music theory software

Practice Station

Reinforce new concepts and practice habits

Workbook/Listening Station

Listen to famous piano pieces, use flashcards, workbook, and other manipulatives.

 

Each child progresses at their own pace and classes culminate with a recital in June.
